1251 Capital Group is a financial services holding company with deep industry operating experience. We established our company to invest the capital of our founders and a select group of like-minded, outside shareholders. Prior to launching 1251 Capital Group, our executives spent a combined 100 years investing capital on behalf of two leading private equity investment firms and operating a preeminent specialty insurance carrier and global asset managers. In founding 1251 Capital Group, we set out to operate in a way that is fundamentally different from the traditional private equity approach.


Charles A. Brizius


Mr. Brizius is a co-CEO of 1251 Capital Group. Prior to co-founding the firm, he was a Managing Director at Thomas H. Lee Partners (THL) where he worked for over 20 years. THL has raised over $20 billion of private equity capital since its inception in 1974. At THL, Mr. Brizius was a Member of the Operating Committee and led successful investments in a variety of industries including Financial and Information Services, Consumer Products and Media. Mr. Brizius was also actively involved in the formation of THL Credit Group, a specialized high-yield credit manager with $11 billion of assets under management. Prior to THL, Mr. Brizius worked as a financial analyst in the Corporate Finance Department at Morgan Stanley & Co. Incorporated, as a securities analyst at The Capital Group Companies, Inc. and as an accounting intern at Coopers & Lybrand.

Mr. Brizius’ investment experience includes AgencyPort Software, Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, AG (NYSE: AWH), Atrium Underwriting Group Ltd., Ariel Holdings Ltd., AXIS Capital Holdings Limited (NYSE: AXS), Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: ENH), Eye Care Centers of America, Inc., Front Line Management Companies, Inc., Houghton Mifflin Company, iHeartMedia, Inc., Spectrum Brands, Inc. (NYSE: SPB), THL Credit Advisors LLC, TransWestern Publishing, United Industries Corporation and Warner Music Group.

Mr. Brizius presently serves as President of the Board of Trustees of The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, Vice Chairman of the Buckingham Browne & Nichols School and a Board Member of The Carroll School.

Mr. Brizius holds a B.B.A., magna cum laude, in Finance and Accounting from Southern Methodist University and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School. 

Michael A.R. Wilson


Mr. Wilson is a co-CEO of 1251 Capital Group. Prior to co-founding the firm, he was a Managing Director at TA Associates (TA) where he worked for 22 years. TA has raised $24 billion of private equity capital since its inception in 1968. At TA, Mr. Wilson led successful investments in a variety of industries including Financial Services, Business Services and Consumer Products. Mr. Wilson was also Vice President and a member of the founding management team of Affiliated Managers Group (NYSE: AMG), a TA-backed holding company formed to acquire stakes in asset management companies, that today has over $800 billion in assets under management. Previously, Mr. Wilson also worked at General Atlantic and Morgan Stanley & Co. Incorporated.

Mr. Wilson’s investment experience includes Advisory Research, Cardtronics (NASD: CATM), Chartered Marketing Services, EYP Mission Critical Facilities, Jupiter Fund Management (LSE: JUP), K2 Advisors, Numeric Investors and United Pet Group.

Mr. Wilson presently serves on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa and the Ivey School of Business at Western University.

Mr. Wilson holds a B.A. with Honors in Business Administration (HBA) from Western University and an M.B.A., with Distinction, from the Harvard Business School.

John T. Hailer


Mr. Hailer is the President - 1251 Asset Management of 1251 Capital Group. Prior to joining 1251 Capital Group, he was President & CEO of Natixis Global Asset Management in the Americas and Asia where he worked for over 18 years and was responsible for the firm’s asset management affiliates in the United States and Asia and distribution strategies worldwide. Before retiring from Natixis in 2017, Mr. Hailer helped the firm strategically reposition itself as a global solutions provider and grow to become one of the largest asset managers in the world with close to $1 trillion of assets under management. Under Mr. Hailer's leadership, Natixis was ranked by Barron's as the #1 Mutual Fund Family in 2013 and 2016. Before joining Natixis, Mr. Hailer was responsible for new business development in North and Latin America at Fidelity Investments Institutional Services Company (FIIS) and was director of retail business development for Putnam Investments.

Mr. Hailer is Chairman of the Board for the New England Council and the Back Bay Association. Additionally, Mr. Hailer serves as a Trustee on several other boards, including Boston Medical Center, Boston Public Library (former Chairman) and the Newport Festival Foundation as well as the Boston Bruins Foundation Board.

Mr. Hailer received his B.A. from Beloit College and is a former member of the Board of Trustees.

Christopher J. Maguire


Mr. Maguire is the President - 1251 Insurance of 1251 Capital Group. Prior to joining the firm, he was the President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Underwriting Officer of Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) where he gained over 25 years of insurance operating experience. PHLY was publicly traded from 1993 until it was sold to the Tokio Marine Group in 2008 for $4.7 billion, a 25x increase in shareholder value. The admitted and non-admitted carrier designs, markets and underwrites over 70 niche commercial property/casualty and professional liability insurance products. It is rated A++ by A.M. Best and AA- by Standard & Poor’s and is nationally recognized as a member of Ward’s Top 50 and National Underwriter’s Top 100.

Mr. Maguire presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Maguire Foundation, Haverford School, Caron Foundation and Kieve-Wavus Education Inc. and as a member of the President’s Advisory Council of Villanova University. He is also an investor and member of the investment committee of Maguire Hayden Real Estate Company.

Mr. Maguire holds a B.A. in English from Villanova University.

Sida Wang


Mr. Wang is a Senior Vice President of 1251 Capital Group. Prior to joining the firm, he was an Associate at Thomas H. Lee Partners (THL) where he invested across the financial and information services sectors. THL has raised over $20 billion of private equity capital since its inception in 1974. Prior to THL, Mr. Wang worked as a financial analyst in the Investment Banking Division at Goldman, Sachs & Co.

Mr. Wang holds a B.S. in Economics, summa cum laude, in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.

Georges Nasr


Mr. Nasr is a Vice President of 1251 Capital Group. Prior to joining the firm, he was an Investment Manager in the private equity group at Export Development Canada (EDC), Canada’s ECA with a $2.0 billion private equity allocation. Prior to EDC, Mr. Nasr was a Senior Associate at CBRE Caledon Capital Management focused on private equity transactions. Caledon provides customized infrastructure and private equity investment solutions and represents over $10 billion on behalf of institutional investors.

Mr. Nasr received his Honours B. Com in Finance from the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa and an M.B.A from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Drew M. Stevens


Mr. Stevens is a Vice President of 1251 Capital Group. Prior to joining the firm, he was a Management Consultant at KPMG where he provided strategic and due diligence services to financial services clients.

Mr. Stevens holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario.

Jesse D. Spinelli


Mr. Spinelli is an Associate of 1251 Capital Group. Prior to joining the firm, he was an Investment Banking Analyst at Miller Buckfire where he provided strategic advisory and restructuring services to various debtor and creditor clients.

Mr. Spinelli holds a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics, summa cum laude, from Boston College.

Cory G. Boyle


Mr. Boyle is the Chief Financial Officer of 1251 Capital Group. Prior to joining the firm, he was a Director at Affiliated Managers Group (NYSE: AMG) where he was responsible for AMG’s global tax provision and tax compliance reporting. AMG is a public asset management firm with over $800 billion in assets under management. Prior to AMG, Mr. Boyle worked as a manager at Ernst & Young, LLP where he provided tax, accounting and audit support to the firm’s asset management, banking and insurance clients.

Mr. Boyle holds a B.S., magna cum laude, in Finance and Accounting from Boston College. He received an M.S. in Accounting from Boston College, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Meghan H. Costa


Ms. Costa is the Chief Administrative Officer of 1251 Capital Group. Prior to joining the firm, she was an Executive Assistant at Thomas H. Lee Partners (THL) where she supported Mr. Brizius for over 16 years. Prior to THL, Ms. Costa had over 10 years of experience in various administrative support roles at several institutional firms.

Ms. Costa holds a B.S. from the Pennsylvania State University.

James E. Decker


Mr. Decker is a Senior Vice President of 1251 Insurance Distribution Platform Inc. Prior to joining 1251 Insurance, Mr. Decker was a Senior Vice President at Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) responsible for divisional oversight of the sports, recreation and public service units representing over a quarter of the company’s GWP (over $800 million). Prior to SVP, Mr. Decker operated within various roles at PHLY with extensive experience in product and coverage development, marketing, distribution and compliance both domestically and internationally. Prior to PHLY, Mr. Decker worked at ACE USA in various claims and underwriting roles.


Edmund F. Garno III


Mr. Garno was a founding principal of Trion, a Philadelphia-based firm that offers employee benefit solutions to a variety of organizations across the country. In little more than a decade, Trion grew to be the second-largest privately-held national firm specializing solely in employee benefits. It was acquired in 2010 by the preeminent global human resources and risk management company, Marsh & McLennan. Mr. Garno continues as co-CEO of Trion, which is in the forefront of redefining the employee benefits industry as it responds to changing legislation, internet technology and evolving business needs.

Michael D. Hankin


Mr. Hankin is a Partner of Brown Advisory Incorporated (Brown) where he serves as President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Hankin has led Brown since 1998, when it became independent from Alex, Brown & Sons and largely employee-owned. Over the past decade, assets under management has grown from $5 billion to over $50 billion today. Through Mr. Hankin’s leadership, Brown has become a world-class investment firm committed to providing its clients with first-class investment performance, thoughtful strategic advice and the highest levels of client service.

P. Andrews McLane


Mr. McLane is a Senior Advisor at TA Associates (TA) where he gained 37 years of private equity experience. He joined TA in 1979, became a Managing Director in 1982 and served on TA’s Executive Committee for 20 years. TA has raised $24 billion of private equity capital since its inception in 1968. Mr. McLane focused on investments in the financial services and consumer industries and spearheaded the efforts which positioned TA to become a leading private equity investor in the asset management space. Notable examples of Mr. McLane’s investments include Affiliated Manager Group, AIM Management Group (now Invesco Ltd.), Allegis Realty Investors (now UBS Realty), First Eagle Investment Management, Numeric Investors (now MAN Group) and Thomson Advisory Group (now PIMCO).

Sean S. Sweeney


Mr. Sweeney is an international marketing consultant for Tokio Marine Management & Insurance Companies. Prior to this role, he served as President and CEO of Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY). Prior to serving as President and CEO of PHLY, Mr. Sweeney spent over 35 years at PHLY and held numerous positions of increasing responsibility including Chief Marketing Officer and President of the company's brokerage division. During his tenure at PHLY, he successfully opened and integrated twenty-one sales offices, which increased the company's revenues from $96 million to $2.2 billion.
